What is happening to me?

Dude. I'm totally bummed.

It's March 16, and I've yet to finish a book in this godforsaken month.

????????????????????

The problem is due to
a) an incredibly busy work schedule, and
b) the fact that I have about 10 books going at once

Ok, maybe 10 is an exaggeration. But here's what I'm working on:
  • The Savage Detectives (for the readalong)
  • The Collected Short Stories of Daphne duMaurier (I'm almost finished this one, I swear!)
  • Black Hills (I'm having a tough time with this one, to be honest)
  • Footsteps in the Dark (for the Classics Circuit)
  • Daniel Deronda (it's just so...BIG)
  • Accelerando (via DailyLit)
  • not to mention a few others that have been on-going for so long that it's too shameful to even mention them here

SO. That's why I've been full of teh suck recently. At least I expect to finish the duMaurier soon. Today? Let's not get our hopes up.

Can anyone commiserate with my reading funk?

I feel your pain. I'm working between 50-60 ungodly hours a week right now and have had a huge dip in my reading time. Sucks big time.

Um yes, I can commiserate! You already know that I'm struggling with BLACK HILLS. My other books are good, I just can't seem to find the time to read them. Hopefully your reading will improve soon!

I've also been in a bit of a reading slump - I have two books with less than fifty pages left that I just can't finish, I keep finding more novels I want to read, and yet I keep getting oddly distracted by facebook and alcohol/socializing.

*Commiserate*

Having several books going at once always makes me feel that I'm getting nowhere with my reading. But I do it anyway, of course :P

Me me! I can! I only read TWO books in February and only ONE this month. Sheesh. I am a bit stressed with moving which takes up my time but I am also a bit wonky in the head and can't concentrate either. Hang in there, we'll all get through this!

I feel your pain. I have a stack of books by my bed that is literally three feet high. STUPID LAW SCHOOL WHY DO YOU TAKE ME FROM MY VERY IMPORTANT RECREATIONAL READING?

I had a book clog earlier this week, but got it sorted out thanks to my ongoing internet problem. You'll get there...April will be incredible. Your word verification is domounds, and that's what you'll do: You'll do mounds of books.

I went through a loong slump like that last year. But we just moved back to our home state, husband found a full time job right away, the kids are in school full time, and I've read about 10 books this month! It feels so wonderful when you finally break free of the slump.

First off, please stick with "Daniel Deronda"! I know, it's big and kind of weird and one of those head-scratcher books but it really does have this... spark. Most people seem not to like it for the same reasons as I do (if at all, sadly), but I'm always on the lookout for other readers and thoughts. People tend to avoid this one (and perhaps rightly so) but it would be great to read your opinion of it.

Onto the reading slump... I suspect we've all felt like this. I've been going through something similar the last two months, which have been terrible for reading thanks to something not quite under my control. It took me a month and a half to finish one 400 paged book. Maybe even more (I'd rather not go back and count). Slumps come and go, though. I wouldn't feel too down.

I started to get too ticked about my slump ("doggone work"), but with so many friends who are unemployed, I decided that I better do the zen thing and feel glad to be employed, etc. One of those "be careful of what you wish for" things that scares me to death. Still, I have about 50-60 recommended books that have filled an entire floor to ceiling shelf, as well as corners and piles on my bedside table. I long to read the books... I miss the smell of the pages and feel of the fresh spines. At least the books will still be there when I find the time again!
